Do you feel underpaid, underappreciated, or unfulfilled in your current job, even though you know you have more potential? Do you worry your job is at risk because of AI? Or worse, do you feel all of that at once, while still wanting more freedom, both personal and financial?
Here’s what I want you to imagine instead: owning a highly profitable business that’s cheap to start, simple to grow, and built on recurring revenue — so you’re not constantly chasing new clients. One that AI is not going to take over anytime soon.
I’ve built multiple highly profitable cleaning businesses in multiple markets and generated multiple seven figures as a cleaning business owner. I’ve also helped thousands of people find that same freedom through their own cleaning businesses — like my coaching student Mikayla, who went all in on her cleaning business after we worked together, and Nikki, who was landing contracts and hiring cleaners within just eight days of starting hers. If you keep thinking “there has to be another way to make a living,” quitting your job with a cleaning business is not only possible in 2026 — it’s simpler than most people make it out to be. Let’s get to work.
You’re Not Inventing Anything — You’re Solving a Problem People Already Pay For
The first thing to understand is that you are not building some new product or service nobody has heard of. You’re building a simple service business that solves a problem people are already desperate to pay for. Cleaning is a basic human need that will always exist.
And when you pursue value-driven clients — people who value their time more than their money — this is an industry with unlimited income potential. One of the best ways those people save time is by hiring a reliable cleaning provider. Think:
- Dual-income households or wealthy homeowners (residential)
- Busy business owners and office managers (commercial)
- Property managers overseeing dozens or hundreds of vacation rental listings
- Contractors who constantly need post-construction cleaning
If you’re thinking your market already has tons of cleaning businesses, you’re probably right. But there are not tons of good cleaning businesses, so it doesn’t take much to stand out. Landing value-driven clients has nothing to do with your experience — it has to do with your professionalism and your reliability. They hire us because we make their life or job easier: we answer the phone, we show up, we communicate, and we simply do what we say we’ll do. That’s literally all it takes to make real money in this industry.
Price for Value, Not for Cheap
This is where most new owners quietly block their own exit: they assume cleaning is a cheap skill that deserves cheap rates. Yes, there are cheap clients out there. But there are also plenty of value-driven clients, and value-driven clients need value-driven pricing.
That means two things. First, don’t be the cheapest provider in town — play that game and you’ll burn out, and hiring cleaners will become next to impossible. Second, remember you’re not just selling cleaning. You’re selling outcomes: a calm home, an office that’s safe for staff and inviting to customers, a move-out clean that passes inspection, a short-term rental that’s ready for the next guest without stress for the owner.
Almost every good client has been burned by a bad cleaning provider before — and as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. When you show up as the better option, they’re already expecting to pay more for a better experience.
My student Soolmaz proved this. She bid on a luxury residential client who was paying $350 a week for cleaning from a provider who wasn’t doing a great job. She bid the job at $795 a week — over double — and won the client, putting their annual value over $40,000. If that client stays five years, which is common in residential cleaning, their lifetime value is over $200,000. That’s the power of landing value-driven clients who want recurring service.
So let the cheap providers fight over $150 one-time jobs. Quietly build a business full of clients with six-figure lifetime values instead. One more thing on pricing: if you’ve always been an employee, you’ve always been paid for your time. But if you price your business like an employee, you will stay stuck like one. Sell outcomes, not hours — that’s what actually gets you out of your current job.
You Don’t Have to Be the One Cleaning
A very common question: do you have to be the one doing the cleaning yourself? No. Some owners start that way, others don’t. If you want to hire the cleaning out from day one, know that plenty of people genuinely enjoy cleaning for a living and make great employees.
The key thing to remember: the best cleaners want to work for the best businesses. That comes down to two things. First, pricing correctly — if you don’t charge enough, you can’t afford to pay the best people. Get your pricing right, as above, and this stops being a problem. Second, building a work culture people are genuinely excited to be part of. If you’re currently an employee somewhere, ask yourself what you like and don’t like about your job, then build your own business and culture around those answers. At a psychological level, everyone wants the same things: a balanced life, work they enjoy, and a job that supports their personal goals. Build that environment and you’ll see incredible retention as a result.
Once you have recurring clients and a team, the thing that actually keeps everyone aligned is consistency — everyone following the same schedule, the same checklist, the same standard, whether you’re on the job or a team member is. That’s a systems problem more than a hiring problem, and it’s exactly what a platform like CleanRev is built to help with: recurring scheduling, checklists, and invoicing in one place, so nothing falls through the cracks as you grow past being a team of one.
How to Actually Quit Your Job This Year
Don’t overthink this and don’t overcomplicate it. You’re not inventing a new product — you’re providing a simple service for a basic human need that already exists all around you. Land value-driven clients, charge value-driven prices, and hire incredible people so you can scale this as big as you want. Do that, and you have a predictable income source and a business that actually pays you back.
If you want personal help doing everything we just covered — and a lot more — that’s exactly what I work on with owners inside my coaching. And remember: more profit equals more freedom.
